The rufous hornero (Furnarius rufus) is a common urban bird in central Brazil. Interestingly, males and females coordinate their vocal behaviors creating duets, which can function to defend territory and guard the social partner
In this exciting collaboration with Dr. Pedro Diniz, professor Regina Macedo, and others, we seek to understand the adaptive function of duets and their coordination properties, using the rufous hornero as a model species Overall, I have been involved with different research facets in this project. For example, we investigated sexual and seasonal variation of the duetting behavior of the rufous hornero. We also studied how urban cycles of human activity alter the behavior of this species |
